Too Many Farewell Tours

As you may have heard, Neil Diamond just recently announced his immediate retirement after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I don’t know too many of his songs, but who wouldn’t want to hear Sweet Caroline live? He toured for fifty years which is a huge accomplishment.

Slayer is set to go on their farewell tour this year. I feel like they are still a pretty young band; they started in 1981. It’s too early for one of the Big Four bands to retire.

Lynyrd Skynyrd just announced today that they are going on a farewell tour. I haven’t read exactly why they are retiring yet. I still need to see them! Hopefully I’ll be able to go when they’re here in August.

Elton John announced yesterday that he will be doing a three-year farewell tour. He will be coming to St. Louis. He’s someone I’ve been wanting to see, too.

Fleetwood Mac also announced their farewell tour.

A few years ago, Rush went on their last tour. Black Sabbath just finished their last tour, Deep Purple went on their last tour, Mötley Crüe went on their last tour, and there’s more that I’m forgetting. They’re all either dying or retiring. I’m hoping that most of these guys who are left will tour until they can’t physically tour anymore.
