French Pen Pal

Today, I had my monthly meeting with the group from Marquette that is going to Paris in March. I had to give a presentation on the Arc de Triomphe. It’s a pretty cool landmark with an interesting background. Although, I kind of forgot about the presentation, so my partner ended up doing all of the work on it. I’m usually better than that; I feel so bad.

Anyway, we got our flight information. We are leaving St. Louis on March 10th around 10:00am and catching a connecting flight in Minneapolis. We will leave from Minneapolis and land in Paris at about 7:45am (as of now).  Our day starts right when we step off the plane. I think we’ll be exploring the city that day. We’ll be leaving Paris at about 3:00ish in the afternoon and catch a connecting flight in Atlanta. We should be home by 11:30pm on March 17th if nothing changes. I’ve never been on a plane, let alone car trip, for that long. We’ll see how this goes.

At the end of the meeting, I was given a letter from a student from France. They pretty much just explained what kind of things they’re into. It’s pretty cool reading about their life, and seeing the similarities and differences between our cultures. Now I have to write back, but I don’t know a whole lot of French (I bet Google Translate does, though). My pen pal writes really well in English (maybe even better than some people I know). They can also speak Spanish and Chinese. They’re really into soccer and basketball; they like to try to watch NBA games when they can, which I find interesting. While I’m in Paris, I get to meet my pen pal. It’s going to be a really cool experience that I’ll never forget.
